Welcome to Wamses Retreat
Origins
Formerly a fisherman’s store, Wamses Retreat takes its name from North Wamses and South Wamses, two of the outer islands in the Farne Islands group.
History and setting
In 1958, Wamses Retreat was renovated for Eva, Ted’s mother, as a weekend escape from her hotel in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Following a second renovation in 2023, it is now an ideal place to relax, enjoy the stunning harbour views and watch the wildlife.
Guests can look forward to a peaceful coastal stay, with comfortable surroundings, ever-changing harbour views and the chance to unwind at their own pace.

The neighbourhood
Wamses Retreat is positioned beside the harbour in the heart of Seahouses, close to local shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants. Boat trips to the Farne Islands depart from the village, while the beach and coastal paths are also within easy reach.
Bamburgh, Beadnell Bay and other highlights of the Northumberland coast are only a short journey away, making Seahouses an excellent base for exploring the wider area.
